And just when I was wondering what some kind person could get me, at a special media event Apple released a new version of the iPod. The iPod Nano. It's a replacement for the iPod mini and has a color screen and is apparently as thin as a pencil according to Apple's marketing materials ;). It comes in 2GB and 4GB versions.

Ever since I joined the Apple seed developer program earlier in the year, I've been going through a constant cycle of reinstalls trying out new developer seeds of Mac OS X Tiger. At one point, being an inquisitive - and some say masochistic - fellow, I decided to try out a HFS+ Case-Sensitive file system instead of plain HFS+. Case sensitivity is useful when interacting with different UNIX operating systems or when compiling and using some UNIX applications ported to the Mac.

So Apple Computer released the latest version of their operating system: Mac OS X 10.3 Panther. It’s been getting wonderful reviews from the geeky and mainstream news sites. My Powerbook feels like a whole new computer. If you are wanting to unburden yourselves from Windows viruses, I highly suggest you take a trip down to a local Apple retailer and try it out. One of the coolest things is Exposé. It allows you to navigate all open windows by reducing their sizes so that you can view and pick form them all at once. For the security conscious, it also allows you to encrypt your home folder as well as send/receive encrypted e-mail. Also out for the Windows OS is Apple’s digital jukebux: iTunes. It’s free, and lets you see what you’re all missing :) Word of warning when you install, if you’re a bit finicky about how you store and categorise all your digital music files, make sure you don’t set it to reorganise them (it organises by artist then album).

Okay, so love may be too strong a word; but I have to admit having 7,500 songs in my front pants pocket feels good. Maybe I should reword that last sentence? (Ha, gotcha. Let’s take this joke further!) Not only that, but with Apple’s updated Backup program I can trade some space used by those 7,500 songs for portable backed-up pr0n goodness! No longer will I have to worry about having wasted all that bandwidth if my laptop hard-drive crashes.
